The Friendship Partners Program
Thunderbird International Friends (TIF) provides opportunity
for you to have an American friend or family that you can get to know while you are here, as well as share with
each other your cultures and traditions. You can sign up
online if you desire to take part in this
prgram. Here's what you can expect:
- Someone will contact you within the next couple weeks and
offer to meet you. If you don't hear from someone within 2 weeks, please let us know.
- You will be matched as closely as possible with someone
with similar interests as your own.
- You will be invited to join your friend or family for
dinner, sporting events, birthday celebrations, picnics, or other events.
- The guidline is to get together approximately once a
month, as both of your schedules allow.
This is not a highly structured program. There are no specific
obligations - on either your part or of your Friendship Partner. It is entirely up to all of the parties involved
to enjoy the experience as they may. The biggest question is always about time - time obligation and time
availability.
- Friendship Partners know you have a full schedule. They
understand you have restraints. When asked if you are available, freely communicate that fact and find a time
that works for everyone.
- Realize that the TIF volunteers are eager for a
relationship with you. They are expecting to have a relationship with you throughout your stay here. If that is
not the type of relationship you want, you would enjoy TIF activities or holiday dinners rather than a
Friendship Partner commitment.
- Feel free to call or email your Friendship Partner
regularly. They want to assist you in any way possible. Be sure they have your current phone and email contact
information.
- If you can't keep an appointment, or are going to be late,
be sure to let them know.
We hope that your participation in this program will contribute
to your time here in a positive way, as well as enriching the learning experiences for both you and your Friendship
Partner.
Sincerely,
Thunderbird International Friends
